About Juken Sentai Gekiranger
Juken Sentai Gekiranger is Toei Company’s thirty-first installment in the Super Sentai metaseries. Production started on September 29, 2006, with principal photography beginning on October 6, 2006. The series premiered on TV Asahi on February 18, 2007, and finished airing on February 10, 2008.
Its footage was used for the American TV series, Power Rangers Jungle Fury. Gekiranger was dubbed into Korean as Power Rangers Wild Spirit for South Korean television.
Four thousand years ago in China, a form of kenpō martial arts called Jūken (獣拳, “Beast-Fist”) was developed by a man named Brusa Ee. He came to Japan and built the hidden village of Jūgenkyō (獣源郷, Beast Origin Village). Jūken is a martial art in which practitioners imitate animals’ abilities while seeking spiritual peace. However, disagreement arose among Brusa Ee’s ten students. Three believed they could grow stronger by using the suffering and hatred within humans, and used their power to take on monstrous forms known as the Three Kenma. After Brusa Ee was murdered, the Kenma gathered followers to practise an evil form of Jūken called Rin Jūken Akugata. The other seven students believed that true strength came from within. They fought their former friends in a great war, which ended when they used a forbidden technique to seal the Kenma’s powers. The technique cost them their human forms, and they became the Seven Kensei.
The Kensei’s followers established the Geki Jūken Beast Arts school, a school of just Jūken whose sporting discipline strengthens the human body with self-produced positive Qi[b], called “Geki”. It is taught by Grand Master Xia Fu, one of the Seven Kensei, who uses a sporting goods company named “SCRTC” as a front. In the present day, a fallen Geki Jūken student named Rio turns to the Rin Jūken style, rebuilds the Rinjū Hall, and revives long-dead Rin Jūken practitioners as kyonshi. He gathers Rinki, the opposite of Geki, to resurrect the Three Kenma and become stronger through them. To oppose the new Rinjū Hall, Xia Fu has been training two youths: Ran Uzaki and Retu Fukami. Together with Jyan Kandou, a feral boy raised by tigers in the woods near Jūgenkyō, they form the Gekiranger team. Two other Geki Jūken practitioners later join them: Gou Fukami, Retu’s brother and a master of the Geki Jū Wolf-Ken style, and Ken Hisatsu, a genius master of the Geki Jū Rhinoceros-Ken style. Together, they fight to save the world from the Akugata’s ambitions. However, an even greater evil is using both sides to pursue its own agenda.
