Choujin Sentai Jetman

Chōjin Sentai Jetman is a Japanese tokusatsu television series produced by Toei Company and Bandai. It is the fifteenth series in the Super Sentai metaseries, following Chikyu Sentai Fiveman. The series aired on TV Asahi from February 15, 1991, to February 14, 1992, and ran for 51 episodes.

It is the first Sentai series in which the Blue and Yellow Rangers switch genders within a team of three men and two women: the male Ranger wears yellow, while the female Ranger wears blue. This would not happen again until Mahou Sentai Magiranger. Jetman is also the last Sentai series until Ressha Sentai ToQger not to be adapted into a Power Rangers series. Shout! Factory released Jetman in North America on September 25, 2018. It was the tenth Super Sentai series released in North America and the only one not adapted into Power Rangers.

The series takes place in 199X.[Note 2] Aboard the Earth Ship, the command center of Sky Force, an organization that protects peace on Earth, scientists develop “Birdonic Waves,” a new technology that gives its subjects superhuman abilities. Experiments conducted as part of the “J-Project” prove successful. Aya Odagiri, the project’s director, selects five elite Sky Force officers from Earth to use the technology. One of them, Ryuu Tendou, is successfully exposed to the Birdonic Waves and becomes the first Jetman, Red Hawk.

The Earth Ship is suddenly attacked by Vyram, an evil organization from another dimension bent on inter-dimensional domination. Vyram destroys the ship, apparently killing Ryuu’s lover and fellow candidate, Rie. In the chaos, the remaining Birdonic Waves intended for the other four officers scatter across Earth and strike four civilians. Odagiri and Tendou escape and set out to find the four new Jetmen, training them to help stop Vyram’s plan to conquer their dimension.

The series later follows Ryuu’s struggles as he learns that Rie survived and joined Vyram. It also features a love triangle involving Gai, Ryuu, and Kaori.
