Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger DELUXE: Abare Summer is Freezing Cold

Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger DELUXE: Abare Summer is Freezing Cold is the main theatrical release for Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger. It was also shown as a double bill with the 2003 Kamen Rider film Kamen Rider 555: Paradise Lost. The film was released on Blu-ray and DVD on March 23, 2016.

The story begins on Dino Earth fifteen years earlier, where a village elder tells a group of children how Princess Freezia used the Holy Sword to seal away two evil Bakuryuu by imprisoning them in ice. According to the story, if the creatures ever escape, the world will be consumed by fear and become “encased in white.” One child asks whether this would mean the disappearance of Dino Earth, but the elder reassures them that there is nothing to fear as long as the good Bakuryuu and the people of Dino Earth continue working together. As the children fall asleep, the elder also tells a young Asuka to rest while the boy continues reading the storybook.

In 2003, a Nordic military helicopter crew discovers an iceberg floating at sea. The iceberg had appeared six months earlier, and it suddenly breaks apart, releasing the two evil Bakuryuu from their frozen prison. The creatures immediately dive into the ocean and begin their rampage.

Meanwhile, the Abarangers and their friends are spending a summer day at the beach. Ryouga shares shaved ice with his niece Mai, while Ryuunosuke relaxes nearby with his own. Ranru, Asuka, and Yukito play beach volleyball until the ball flies out of bounds. Ryouga tries to hit it back but misses, then notices a strange woman holding the ball. She behaves oddly, embraces him, and says that she has finally “found” him. Some of Ryouga’s friends misunderstand the situation, forcing him to insist that he has never met her before.

Asuka looks at the woman and senses something familiar about her, but before he can understand why, an Evolian appears and demands that the Abarangers hand her over. When the team assumes the creature is a Trinoid, it corrects them and introduces itself as a Hexanoid named Hanabikinikibinas. Emiri breaks the fourth wall and explains to the children watching that “Hexa” means “Six” in Greek. Irritated by Emiri seemingly talking to nobody, Hanabikinikibinas fires its Bikini Beam, transforming everyone’s clothing into bikinis. The men are embarrassed, while the girls seem much less concerned.

Ryouga notices that the mysterious woman is unaffected by the Bikini Beam. The distraction gives Hanabikinikibinas an opening to use the Venus Stinger, turning Emiri to stone. It follows with the Eggplant Bomber attack, but the Abarangers immediately transform and shield Ryousuke from the blast. They use their AbaLasers to destroy Hanabikinikibinas’s grunts before making a quick retreat.

The team hides the petrified Emiri inside a cove. Mai tries to comfort the mysterious woman by giving her a flower, and the woman apologizes for bringing trouble to the group. Ryouga tells her that it is not her fault and that he does not mind helping. She explains that the Evolians are pursuing her because they want the weapon she carries.

Asuka recognizes the object as the legendary Dyna Laser and realizes that the woman is Princess Freezia from the legends of Dino Earth. He immediately bows before her. Freezia explains that she had been sealed inside the sword for more than 15,000 years. Because the sword’s energy has weakened, she was released from it. She asks the Abarangers to provide some of their Dino Guts power, warning that the world will otherwise be destroyed. Ryouga receives the Dyna Laser and begins channeling his Dino Guts into it.

Out at sea, a tanker encounters a sudden snowstorm. Its captain is confused because the ship is traveling through tropical waters. The two evil Bakuryuu then appear directly in front of the vessel and destroy it, killing the crew as the tanker explodes. Inside Brachiosaurus, the Abarangers’ Bakuryuu partners sense the evil presence and begin to panic, causing Brachio considerable discomfort.

While the team travels in Yukito’s 1971 Dodge Challenger convertible, Freezia explains that the Evolians sent the iceberg from Dino Earth through the portal to Earth six months earlier. She also reveals that the weapon she carries is actually one of two pieces of the Sword of the Seal.

Before Freezia can finish explaining, Hanabikinikibinas suddenly appears in the road and opens fire. Yukito stops the car, and most of the team gets out and transforms to fight the Hexanoid. Ryouga drives Freezia away so they can search for the second part of the sword.

Hanabikinikibinas releases a swarm of bees whose stings cause random effects. One bee stings Yukito and shrinks him to the size of a doll, prompting Hanabikinikibinas to order the Aboimas to try to stomp on him. Another bee stings Ranru and causes a mitosis-like effect, making her repeatedly split into copies of herself until more than one hundred Ranrus fill the dock.

At first, Ranru believes the situation is ideal because an army of AbareYellows should easily defeat Hanabikinikibinas. Instead, each copy displays a different ambition based on Ranru’s own desires and refuses to fight alongside her. Both the Abarangers and Hanabikinikibinas struggle to deal with the overwhelming number of energetic Ranru clones.

A television news report announces that strange creatures are moving toward the Japanese coast and creating an abnormal cold front. Ryouga stops nearby and uses the Dyna Laser to search for the second piece of the sword, discovering that it is somewhere close.

At a TV Asahi studio, an archaeology and antiques program is shut down because the network has switched to special news coverage. Camera crews leave to report on the emergency, while staff members lock up the item that had been scheduled for the program: the missing piece of the sword.

Freezia asks Ryouga to channel more Dino Guts into the Dyna Laser so they can determine the sword fragment’s exact location. Wanting to help her protect the world from the approaching disaster, Ryouga focuses his power and senses precisely where the missing piece can be found.

Before they can reach it, Jeanu appears and orders Ryouga to surrender the sword. She equips the Armor of Darkness, but Ryouga refuses to give it to her and prepares to fight as AbaRed.

Back at the dock, night has fallen and the Ranru clones are still trampling over the Abarangers while also overwhelming Hanabikinikibinas. The real Ranru eventually realizes that all of the copies share aspects of her personality. She creates a distraction that draws the entire group of clones away from the dock. With them gone, Ranru and Asuka resume the fight against Hanabikinikibinas as AbareYellow and AbareBlack.
