Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger vs. Ninninger the Movie: Super Sentai’s Message from the Future

Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger vs. Ninninger the Movie: Super Sentai’s Message from the Future from Super Sentai is the “VS” team-up movie between Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger and Shuriken Sentai Ninninger. The film also includes the debut appearance of the main cast of Uchu Sentai Kyuranger. It premiered in Japanese theaters on January 14, 2017, and features Daisuke Shima returning as Yūsuke Amamiya/Red Falcon from Chōjū Sentai Liveman.

The story opens with a boy named Yoshiharu Igasaki looking on in despair as both the Zyuohgers and Ninningers appear to be dead. The events then return to the previous day, when Yamato, Sela, Leo, Tusk, and Amu are camping beside a river. Takaharu, Yakumo, Nagi, Fuuka, and Kasumi suddenly attack them after mistakenly believing the Zyuohgers are evil Youkai.

A fierce battle breaks out between the two Sentai teams. Yamato and Takaharu become separated from the others, while the remaining Ninningers return home and meet an alien named Runrun. She claims that the Zyuohgers once pretended to be friends with her tribe before betraying them and killing all of her companions.

Runrun is actually Gilmarda, an assassin hired by Naria and disguised as an alien. He deliberately turns the Ninningers against the Zyuohgers while using pollen to block communications throughout the surrounding area.

Meanwhile, Yamato and Takaharu’s fight is interrupted by Yoshiharu. He reveals that he is Takaharu’s son from the future and has traveled back in time to prevent the Zyuohgers and Ninningers from killing one another. According to him, their deaths would bring the history of Super Sentai to an end.

When Misao fails to find his friends at the campsite, he returns to Uncle Mario’s house. The other Ninningers abduct him, and Runrun restrains him with vines and places a mask over his mouth. Elsewhere, the remaining Zyuohgers encounter Kinji. After learning that he is also a Ninninger and that Misao has been captured, they take Kinji prisoner in return.

At the Ninningers’ home, the mask covering Misao’s mouth speaks in his voice and gives Yakumo and the others false information intended to make Misao appear guilty. Unable to speak normally, Misao desperately searches for another way to communicate the truth.

The next day, all six Zyuohgers and six Ninningers gather at a stadium. Their confrontation appears to end with both teams being killed, horrifying Yoshiharu. Runrun celebrates, believing the plan has succeeded, only to discover that the entire battle and their deaths were an illusion created by the Ninningers.

The heroes explain that Misao managed to use his butt to signal the other Ninningers until they understood that they needed to remove his mask. Once free, he told them the truth. The Ninningers apologized to the Zyuohgers, and the two teams secretly worked together to turn Runrun’s deception against him.

With his scheme exposed, Gilmarda abandons his disguise. He creates copies of Bangray, Jagged, Gengetsu Kibaoni, Raizo Gabi, and Masakage Tsugomori to fight the combined Sentai teams. The Zyuohgers and Ninningers transform and confront the copies.

Zyuoh Eagle and Akaninger struggle against the Gengetsu clone until Yoshiharu and Tsumuji arrive to support them. A Sealing Shuriken then appears and changes into a Nin Shuriken that Yoshiharu can use. Yoshiharu, his father, and his grandfather all transform into Akaninger and join forces against Gengetsu, while Zyuoh Eagle pursues Gilmarda.

Naria arrives with Azald and Quval to assist Gilmarda, but Bud appears and blocks their path. The Kyurangers suddenly arrive as well and drive the three villains away. After the Kyurangers depart, Bud concludes that their appearance proves history has successfully changed and that the legacy of Super Sentai will continue.

Once the clones are destroyed, the Ninningers and Zyuohgers unite against Gilmarda. He uses several Continue Medals to enlarge himself and declares his intention to destroy the entire planet.

The two teams form Wild Tousai Dodeka King and King Shurikenzin to battle the giant Gilmarda, but he easily overwhelms both mecha. Just as the heroes are about to be defeated, they experience a vision of the previous 38 Red Sentai.

The former red warriors grant them the power needed to form Wild Tousai Shuriken King. Empowered by the strength of all the Super Sentai, the combined mecha destroys Gilmarda once and for all.

With his father’s death prevented, Yoshiharu says goodbye to Takaharu and the others before returning to the future. The group then wonders how Yoshiharu could exist if Takaharu was supposed to have died. Takaharu concludes that his new wife must already be pregnant and casually reveals that he has recently married, surprising even his own family, who had known nothing about it.
