Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger

Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger is a Japanese tokusatsu television series and the 40th installment in Toei’s long-running Super Sentai metaseries, following Shuriken Sentai Ninninger. It premiered on February 14, 2016, alongside Kamen Rider Ghost and later Kamen Rider Ex-Aid in TV Asahi affiliate stations’ Super Hero Time lineup. The series concluded on February 5, 2017.

Released to mark Super Sentai’s 40th anniversary and Toei’s “Super Hero Year,” Zyuohger is the franchise’s fifth series to center on animals. It followed Choujuu Sentai Liveman by 28 years, Seijuu Sentai Gingaman by 18 years, Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger by 15 years, and Juken Sentai Gekiranger by 9 years.[1][2][3] The series also features Minecraft-inspired elements and a Rubik’s cube motif. Junko Kōmura served as its lead screenwriter.

Zoologist Yamato Kazakiri discovers Zyuland, a world inhabited by the Zyumans (ジューマン, Jūman), an anthropomorphic animal people. At the same time, the Dethgaliens (デスガリアン, Desugarian) arrive from outer space and select Earth as the setting for their 100th Blood Game (ブラッドゲーム, Buraddo Gēmu) competition. Four Zyumans—Sela, a shark woman; Leo, a lion man; Tusk, an elephant man; and Amu, a white tiger woman—try to defend Zyuland from the Dethgaliens. Their battle carries them to Earth, with Yamato accompanying them, and reveals that he possesses an artifact called the Champion’s Proof. His is the fifth in a set, with each of his Zyuman companions possessing one as well.

The Champion’s Proofs transform into devices that let the five become the Zyuohgers and battle the Dethgalien general attacking Earth. After the fight, the Zyumans realize they are trapped in the human world: six Champion’s Proofs are needed for them to return to Zyuland. As they search for the sixth, Yamato helps the four Zyumans adjust to life in the human world, while they continue fighting the Dethgaliens. The invaders add the Zyuohgers to their Blood Game festivities, which grow more intense when they kidnap the human Misao Mondo and turn him into an artificial Zyuohger to fight for them. Once the Zyuohgers free Misao from Dethgalien control, he joins their side as Zyuoh The World. Later, Bado, an old acquaintance of Yamato’s family, uses the sixth and final Champion’s Proof to join the battle as Zyuoh Bird.
