Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan

Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan is the fifth series in Toei Company’s Super Sentai tokusatsu metaseries. It aired from February 7, 1981, to January 30, 1982, and is the only Super Sentai series to be a direct sequel to its predecessor (Denshi Sentai Denjiman).

It is also the franchise’s first and only series with an all-male Super Sentai team, and the first to have fewer than five members in its core team. Toei Company’s listed international English title for the series is Sunvulcan.

When the Machine Empire Black Magma poses a threat, the United Nations establishes the Solar Sentai at a summit. Commander Arashiyama selects three specialists from the air force, navy, and rangers of the UN’s Guardians of World Peace (GWP) to become Sun Vulcan. Black Magma learns of the plan and attacks the GWP base, but Sun Vulcan makes its debut in time to save it.

Hell Saturn prays to the Black Solar God and is rewarded with the revival of Queen Hedrian, now a cyborg with a mechanical heart and metallic afro. Even with Hedrian’s help, Black Magma’s numerous schemes fail. After 01 dies, Amazon Killer, a Vader, arrives from space and destroys the Sun Vulcan Base. A new Vulcan Base is then built.

The original Vul Eagle, Ryusuke Ohwashi, is replaced by his friend and swordsmanship master, Takayuki Hiba, who first appeared in episode 23.
